Smooth check-in. Easy check out. Clean. Well kept facility. Food was great. Most important it was quiet all night and the bed was very comfortable.
Pleasant place to rest after a days touring of the area. The pool was refreshing and woke us up. The air conditioning felt so good - it was almost 100 that day. Bed was comfy, shower was great, breakfast filled us up. Enjoyed our stay.
I've stayed at the Best Western in John Day several times over the past dozen years. It has always been quiet, friendly and clean. The recent complete renovation of the guest rooms, lobby, and breakfast area are very pleasing and comfortable. The expanded complimentary breakfast is appreciated, but could use some fruit. The John Day BW is probably the nicest place to stay in the area, and is a short walk to several restaurants, fast food, bars, espresso shop, drug/grocery store, and Fair Grounds complex.
The staff have been very friendly and responsive to my needs each time I have stayed here. I would recommend it as a great base for exploring the region.
On 9-16-17 my husband and I went in to get a room for the evening and the guy was kind and gathered our information and collected payment for the night's stay. He then indicated there was a problem and it went in the wrong system and asked for the credit card information again. It happens in retail quite often so we thought nothing of it. We gave him a hard time about his fancy watch "joking of course". Hotel was nice but pricey. Wasn't until yesterday when my husband happened to check his bank account and the hotel charged him again. When he called he was informed it was because he made a reservation. He did not, I was there. We were only there hunting for Elk Archery season. That ended over two weeks ago. Not to mention there was no confirmation email for the reservation that states the rules if you cancel or anything else. He was informed he was wrong and he would have to wait until the manager came in the next morning. That did not make him happy. It's $175 that was allocated elsewhere while he is working out of town. The woman was completely unapologetic about the situation. I called back today to find out why it's not reflecting and again she was very rude and made sure I knew she was the one he spoke to last night. Informed me again that he made the reservation and I corrected and said he did not and asked about the confirmation email that typically goes out. Her response was "anyways, it's being reversed". Sounds guilty to me. Mistakes happen and it's not a big deal, but at least own up to it and don't be rude and disrespectful because of the error. We will never stay at this hotel again and will be sure to tell our hunting friends to also stay elsewhere. The rest of the town was great!
A central location in John Day makes it possible to walk everywhere. It is just around the corner from the Kam Chung state park, a few blocks from the big city park, and still pretty quiet.
